The Inspiring Story of Super~Chick!

Early 2009, when Little SuperChick (aka SzWuChi) was a puppy, she was living a harsh life on the streets of Taichung, alone and scared. One day, a kind lady stopped to give SuperChick some food and saw that her legs were bent with big open wounds. The wounds were so deep that the bones showed through. She then realized that SuperChick couldn't walk, she was crawling with her front legs and dragging her body along the ground, she called TUAPA and SuperChick was rescued and sent to the hospital.

The vet at the National Chung-Hsing University Veterinary Hospital examined SuperChick and found that her spine was injured and back legs were broken. One of her back legs had big open wounds. The wounds were too severe for surgery on her broken legs. So, they decided to clean the wounds and to prevent infection.

After the hospital released SuperChick, she came to the TUAPA shelter. At first, she was kept in a cage in the medical room 24/7.

One day, Dr. Jimmy (the full time Shelter Vet) let her out of the cage for the first time, and to everyone's suprise, she started walking rapidly on her front legs! It stunned everyone in the medical room! Considering her condition, it was such a shock to see her moving at all, much less so swiftly like that.

Later she moved to the handicapped dog living area, and she was the most active dog there. Whenever the volunteers put her in a buggy and took her outside, she always wanted to get out. She would try everything to jump out of the buggy to walk and sniff. Already she was in disagreement that she was handicapped!

Although it seemed SuperChick had no problem with mobility, the doctors decided to remove her back legs after they assessed her condition again. They believed that amputation could help to reduce the weight on her front legs. Throughout it all, this amazing dog remained happy and smiling!

Soon after, we saw her video on the TUAPA website, we knew immediately we had to bring her to Canada for a chance at a furever home, but when we met her at the airport, it was settled…she was staying with us!!

Now she can not only walk,

     but she hikes, runs,

and plays!

So now Super~Chick is our Island Dogz Ambassador of Goodwill, and she couldn’t do a better job! She likes nothing better than joyfully meeting people and dogs alike!  Her incredibly happy little face lights up as she runs to connect with people, and she’s even happier if she can get a good scratch in return (she can do almost everything EXCEPT scratch herself) People start out feeling sorry for her when they notice her handicap, but they soon learn that she does not believe she is needing any pity, because she is perfect just the way she is.

Everyone she meets leaves a little more inspired and a lot happier than before!!
